Okay so its not secret that I dont really care for the majority of the bands that are out there right now with the exception of a few. Basically Im looking for some new bands to check out...straight edge doesnt matter. Let me hear it

everyone says(or tells us) that RISEN is "90's" sounding, not sure if its accurate or not. we definitely don't sound like Green Rage or anything.

-Reflect, most accurately
-You can find the release from 'Defiant Voice' from their myspace, prolly (they're from sacramento).
-Shipwreck's demo

I would mostly think of Japanese bands for that mid-90s open-E-chord sound, especially The Ten Commandments, xShiverx, Canopus, Umbrage, The Fortress, Loyal to the Grave, etc. Pretty much any of the Retribution Network-, Messiah Organization- or Bloodaxe 168/178-affiliated bands.

All of those bands are amazing. Anything Japan produces is gold (with exception to the fish market!!! :x ). The best Japanese hardcore band being Blood Calls We Die, go listen.

you know, i actually think saying something sounds "90's" is pigeon-holing the decade a little too much really. there is quite a variety of sounds going on in that time period, 108 doesn't sound that much like Green Rage or Abnegation.

My band from a few years ago still plays shows. We're kind of a collective:

Like Kurt said, there was quite a variety of hardcore during the 90s. This was our vision.

Shipwreck's "Abyss" is fucking awesome.
I didn't think I would like it as much as the other's they put out, but it's great.

I think you are absolutely correct, BUT even putting the multitude of sounds aside, the music coming out of the hardcore scene in the 90s definitely had a certain feel. Although a lot of bands didn't sound similar, everything sounded urgent. Trial...Undertow...Threadbare...Overcast...those bands don't sound anything alike, but they all made you feel like what they were doing was important, and from the deepest depths of their person. When I say a band reminds me of the 90s, it's usually the overall feel that they give me, as opposed to just their sonic output.

I was in a band called Forced Forward.

We broke up a few months back.

There is no Myspace anymore for it but if you want, you can probably find it online and if you are feeling generous you should purchase the record or cd from revhq.com.

We got compared to No Escape, 108, Ressurection, Strain,Undertow, Outspoken, etc.etc...

I dunno, I guess people gave us the 90s tag but we weren't intentionally a revivalist band.

Yeah.

If I want to hear some Forced Forward, I'll just go over to Gus' apartment and make him play the riffs for me! haha

I was just trying to bust your balls a little bit, because the illustrious Augustus Bowman now lives in my city.

dude, so weird. my friend and i were dumpstering behind a very famous music distro tonight, and will sifting through an entire dumpster full of cd's i found 2 forced forward cds (i wouldn't feel too bad, there was cd's from lots of popular bands). all the cd's in the dumpster had holes punched through them, but one of your cd's had the hole directly through the center hole of the disc, so its still playable. i was pretty stoked.
i only got to listen to a few songs while on the way home, but i liked it.

i just found it strange that the day i read about a band on a message board, i find the cd in a dumpster...

Little fact... The Forced Forward 12" will have half the pressing destroyed to make it "rarer".

Yeah.......

Anyways, I wonder why the hell they were doing that, when I first thought of holes, I thought "promo" but that doesn't sound right...

Either way, I don't understand why Rev is doing that, it's a bit of a waste to do that.
