A friend of mine sent me this correspondence between Hallgier from Purified In Blood and another person. Apparently it's floating around the internet. DISCUSS!

There's rumor that several members of PIB aren't vegan anymore. I know
it's a rumor, and I really love you guys, but if that's true I just can't
keep wearing my PIB without feeling like an asshole. Is it true?

Thanks pal, take care of yourself.

yeah its true. do whatever u want man. if veganism is the only thing u
care about then i dont want u to wear my shirt anyway. don't get me wrong,
i care deeply about animal rights. more than most vegan sxe wannabe
miltant pussys. but there is more to life than eating tofu. if us not
beeing a full vegan band(which we never were from the beginning or even
when we realsed last leaves, it was just eric who wanted us to seem like a
vegan band so he would sell more of our records,) makes u not wanna
support us then there is nothing more i can do man. how old are u really?

Yeah, dude from PIB wasn't a dick about that at all. Lame shit though, but does that apply for the whole band not being vegan?

I wasn't going to respond to this, but now I feel like I should.

There is no way that Erik would try to force a false label onto anyone. Any band that is on New Eden is both vegan and drug free TO THE BEST OF ERIK'S KNOWLEDGE. Obviously, Erik can't be there with every member of these bands all the time, so he has to assume that when someone claims to be vegan and drug free that they're being truthful and that hopefully they'll continue to be vegan and drug free. Any claim that Erik uses vegan straight edge to "boost sales" is pure bullshit, and whoever says that deserves to have the words smacked out of their mouth.

When they recorded the first CD, PIB were all vegan except for Stig, who was vegetarian. When they came over for their US tour (Total Liberation Tour) in 2004 they were all vegan, at least on tour- I should know, having driven them across the country for it. When the CD was actually released on New Eden Records they were a vegan straight edge band.

It's sad for me to hear that members of the band have broken edge, and much, much sadder to hear that some have given up on their veganism, but to tell the truth it doesn't surprise me greatly given my personal experiences with them; nor does Hallgeir's use of the word "pussy" surprise me greatly given his general attitude & views. They were always better when Lasse was with them anyway. Fuck 'em.

veganism is actually a selling point?
it's actually the "vegan" on lots of shirts that keeps me from buying lots of band shirts because i'm vegetarian.

ah man....

I've known about this for a long time, but you know... if you talk about something like this on the internet people will just tell you that you just want to throw shit at bands.
If anyone is interested in details just PM me.

Anyway I can't really understand why a band needs to label itself vegansxe when it is not. Being vegan and sxe is not cool, it's not a selling point. Last PIB album is really good, they didn't need to define themselves what they were not. Honestly i feel disgusted by such a behaviour. You can be omnivore , drink beer and still be awesome people and make good music.

Oh, and he claims they never were a vse band? Uhm, and their name comes from the song title of a vse band...

My favorite part? "There's more to life than eating tofu"

Too bad veganism isn't about tofu - it's about life and death. Good one, Hallgier.

i find it hard to believe that erik from new eden would promote PIB as a vegan straight edge band if he knew that they weren't all vegan. he's not like that at all. he's pretty on point and very dedicated to maintaining an awesome all-vegan, all-sxe label.

as for PIB, most of them are friends of mine and i care about them a lot. it's too bad that some of them have made some (in my opinion) poor choices recently.

elaborate on this more please.

this next part does not apply to PIB. i don't know them, but this just got me thinking.....

this has been my issue with "xvx" bands in the past. i was around the 94-95 era and remember touring with noteable bands of that scene while they watched porn and talked about hooking up with girls. i remember staying at, supposedly "hardline" houses where the bathroom was covered in porn.

i find it hypocritical when bands front "xvx" but have no consideration for the struggle for human rights and dignity. fighting sexim, racism, classism, homophobia, etc seems to be consistant with a struggle against oppression. to hear supposed "xvx" bands using language like this seems a little inconsistent with ideas of fighting oppression.

i'll agree with 'pib' in the sense that veganism and straight edge is not the "be all, end all". i think we might put bands on too much of a pedastool when it comes to the whole 'xvx' scene.

thoughts?

Well, like many folks in the vegan sXe scene (& the greater hardcore scene in general), certain members of PIB exhibited what I would consider very macho behavior in their time in the US. I don't really feel like going into specifics too much, but there was a lot of tough guy posturing & machismo present on the Total Liberation Tour, & PIB were far from the only ones exhibiting this behavior. It wasn't the best of times for me, personally. I never real;ly felt comfortable around it, whether it was what people were saying, the words they used, or the eway they acted. Maybe I'm just an "emo faggot".

Thinly-veiled misogyny disuised as pseudofeminism, extreme heteronormativity & a near total lack of real awareness of class & race issues seem to be par for the course in the hardcore scene, unfortunately, & vegan straight edge kids are not always the exceptions I'd hope they would be.

I think it does duck about PIB but at the same time its almost kinda expected and what i mean by that is it just seems so many have soldout of vegan or edge even bands that you would never if think they would and you know it does suck.. I still think PIB is/was awesome both cds are seriously amazing. im glad they decided to break up rather than stay together and not be a vegan edge cause thats what they represented.

interesting that alot of bands have soldout when they get on a "bigger" label.makes me wonder!.the comments made are really out there.reducing veganism to JUST eating tofu, saying HE cares more than most wannabes out there(then why isnt he STILL vegan???!!!,"if your not now,you NEVER were!).then with the P word, and blaming erik too.never taking the blame to himself.really whack!.i remember seeing them on the total lib fest and i could just tell they were just fronting.after soo many yrs of watching fakes u can just tell right off the bat.they wont be the last, sadly.we cant just expect everyone to be animal defenders.most just wanna be rockstars.they never had it in their hearts to care.perhaps the whole time they ate with yosef or whomever on that tour they were craving whatever their eating now?.and how did they sellout?.what have they starting eating?.meat?.dairy?.all of it?.i also think if we're to "cast stones" on peeps using words like this guy did,the P word, then we shouldnt be saying motherfucker either!.think bout that word.someone who fucks a mother(woman).not good doods!.just a thought.
but as far as this band goes, screw em!,heavenshallburn kills em anyhow.and soooo many other bands that are still vegansXe.those sellouts didnt disappoint me,they disappointed the animals theyve now betrayed, but then again i know they NEVER really cared.vegansXe.

it's funny to read that today, because as far a i know heaven shall burn aint an all-vegan-edge band anymore. and that for monthes now. some of the guys still are xvx, some aren't. i'm not pointing fingers to specific persons and i may be wrong at all, but that's what i know.
