• Why do Catalyst releases always seem to come out late?
Well, not to pass the blame onto someone else, but often times the factors that make releases late are out of our control, and the lateness is due to the band in question. Probably 9 times out of 10 we are ready to go ahead with the release but are kept waiting on something from the band; either the actual recording, the artwork for the release (which has taken almost a year in some cases) or something else. Once we have everything in our hands it generally takes about a month to get it all back from the pressing plant. Hopefully as things go forward we can get this in line and stop having so many delays.

• Does Catalyst only release vegan straight edge bands?
Although we have released a lot of vegan straight edge bands, Catalyst has released bands that are not all vegan (Extinction, Contempt, Horizon and Birthright were not 100% vegan bands at the time of the releases on Catalyst, even though the majority of the members were). But we do prefer to release bands that are both vegan and straight edge, because these are part of the ideals that the label represents. Catalyst was started as a straight edge label, and will always be a label that releases bands that are straight edge, or are committed to living a drug-free lifestyle.

• Is Catalyst currently accepting demos?
Of course, if you want to send a demo for your band feel free to mail it to the address listed on the main page. We apologize if we don't get back to you, but we tend to stay pretty busy and often receive a lot of demos in the mail. If you want to hear back from us try sending an email along a week or two after the demo should have arrived.

• What are the criteria for being released on Catalyst Records?
Part of this was answered above, the number one consideration is that the band be a straight edge band or one in which all of the members are commited to living drug-free. Catalyst began as a straight edge label and thats the way it is going to remain. It is also obvious that we lean heavily towards bands that are also at least vegetarian, and of course vegan is even better. Another big plus is if the band is actually ABOUT something, or has a political message of some kind. We believe that hardcore is about ideas and communication and we want to promote bands that believe this as well. What it comes down to is that we are into putting out records for bands that fit with the goals and agenda of the label.

• Does Catalyst only release metal sounding bands?
NO! It is just that most of the bands that we have come across that fit the description above tend to be more on the metal-hardcore/ "newschool" side of the scene. We would be more than happy to put out releases by bands that aren't as metal. Rise Over Run is a good example of this. The message is the most important part.
